Keeping Up With the Fashion Awards

It seems that as soon as a fashion awards week ends, another begins. In order to keep up with these fashion shows and learn from them you need a guide to help you. Fashion awards are showcase events that last about a week in duration and allow designers to display the collections for next season to a variety of fashion press, enthusiasts and buyers. Each year there are four main fashion shows throughout the year: ready-to-wear, haute couture, resort/cruise and menswear. Nearly every city in the world has its own ready-to-wear fashion week throughout the months. The top places to see these fashion shows are Berlin in January and July, Copenhagen in February and August, Madrid in February and September and Tokyo in March and October. These shows run for about four consecutive weeks between February and September. Often these shows flow in the direction of the amount of influence fashion holds within the city. Haute Couture

Haute Couture fashion awards are held in Paris in both January and July. Ready-to-wear fashion is produced in mass, but couture pieces are one-off pieces made to the specific measurements of a person's body. Haute Couture clothes are made to a high standard and often the show ends with a beautiful wedding dress. These shows are the perfect place for designers to really show their creative talents and not have to worry about commercially viable clothes. Resort/Cruise

This new type of fashion awards is used to provide rich fashionistas with a collection of clothes specifically for the holidays. These shows fill the gap between Spring/Summer and Autumn/Winter seasons. Often you will find clothing items that aren't produced by ready-to-wear collections like swimwear. These shows often occur between June and January. The January shows typically occur in America. Then there are pre-fall collections that occur just before the Autumn/Winter collections start appearing.

Menswear

Menswear shows occur twice a year in January and June in the major fashion cities of Paris and Milan. In January, you can see upcoming Autumn/Winter fashion and in June, you get to see next year's Spring/Summer fashions.

Award Shows Highlight Fashion

In addition to the major fashion shows throughout the year there are a variety of fashion award shows and other award shows where you can find current fashion trends highlighted. The best place to see a highlight of current fashion trends is the SAG awards. SAG awards fashion is often the place to see the newest in designer dresses.

Red carpet fashion awards are often given out after many Hollywood awards shows. At these awards, the fashion clothes of the celebrities are discussed. The top and best-dressed individuals are mentioned along with the worst dressed. Often the top designers are discussed at these awards, but the basis of the decision is often made based on how well a celebrity can wear a certain fashion.

Additional places where you can see the newest in fashion include the British fashion awards where you can see a display of the top available fashion outfits. Only the top fashion designers in Britain are given awards at these shows and often go on to make big statements in the fashion industry.

Lastly, the top of all fashion award shows is the CFDA fashion awards. These shows display many of the upcoming fashion talent. Only the newest and brightest in the fashion scene are successful at the CFDA fashion awards. The designers who win these awards are most likely to go on to a shining career in the fashion industry.
